Battery Park
Battery Park holds much significance in the history of New York
City. What started as a fortress to guard early settlers has evolved
into the largest open space in Downtown Manhattan. The Statue Cruises
ticket booth at Battery Park is located inside Castle Clinton National Monument, originally a fort built for defense in the War of 1812.
The nonprofit Battery Conservancy is
undertaking an effort to make more of the park accessible to more
people. Check their website for updates and ways you can help.
